What Is Email Authentication?

Email authentication is a set of protocols designed to verify the identity of email senders and protect against spoofing, phishing, and spam. The three main protocols β€” SPF, DKIM, and DMARC β€” work together to form a comprehensive defense layer for your domain's email reputation.

How It Works

SPF verifies the sending server's IP address against authorized senders. DKIM adds a cryptographic signature proving the email was sent by the domain owner. DMARC ties them together by defining a policy for handling failures and requiring alignment between the visible "From" address and the authenticated domain.

Why It Matters

Proper email authentication is now mandatory for bulk email delivery. Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft require SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for senders. Without authentication, your emails are more likely to land in spam or be rejected entirely.
